About RAZR

RAZR is a monolithic carbon rigging product developed by Future Fibres since 2009 and designed specifically for Grand Prix inshore race boats.

Technology

RAZR cables are manufactured using a continuous winding process of carbon fiber unidirectional prepreg around two spools tailored to a specific length and stiffness. This results in the smallest and lightest monolithic rigging available on the market.

Product attributes

Each cable is designed with the minimum fiber content required to achieve a specific stiffness and strength at the end terminals resulting in zero extra weight.

RAZR is manufactured with all the carbon fibres fully packed and consolidated into a round cross-section providing the smallest cable diameter.

Monolithic cables only provide a single layer of safety due to their low flexibility and bending tolerance. If a monolithic cable is impacted, damage can spread through the core fibers.

RAZR cables have a very high tendency to vibrate due to their monolithic construction, which creates extra drag. External dampers are needed to minimize vibration.

Due to the monolithic construction, RAZR cables have very limited coiling capabilities for transport. Above a certain size, rigging cannot be fully finished at the factory and requires on site curing at the yacht’s location.

Monolithic cables offer limited-service options, as they can only be visually inspected on-site at the yacht. While NDT testing is available, it cannot evaluate the hidden end fittings, which is the crucial element that provide the cable’s strength at the mast connection.

RAZR is a DNV GL approved product.

Applications

RAZR rigging is a strictly inshore Grand Prix racing product such as TP52´s who exclusively race inshore and regularly undertake thorough rig and rigging inspections.
