Multistrand Carbon Fibre Rigging

Launched in 2004, ECsix is a multistrand carbon fibre rigging system engineered for high-performance sailing yachts, superyachts, and grand prix race boats. Designed to deliver exceptional strength-to-weight, low elongation, and precise load control, enhances rig efficiency, stability, and aerodynamic performance. Proven in the most demanding offshore and inshore racing environments, it combines long service life, fatigue resistance, and dependable reliability across yachts of all sizes.

Future Fibres Technologies

ECsix cables use Future Fibres’ patented multi-strand technology, combining bundles of pultruded carbon fibre rods inside a textile cover. Each cable is engineered to a specific length and stiffness using titanium end fittings, delivering the most high-performance and durable carbon rigging on the market.

Product Attributes

1
Weight
Each carbon fibre cable is designed with the minimum fibre content required to achieve a specific stiffness and strength at the end terminals resulting in zero extra weight. Will save up to 70% weight compared to traditional Nitronic steel rigging.
2
Diameter
ECsix is made with individual carbon rods tightly packed into a round cross-section and wrapped in a thin braided cover, resulting in the smallest possible diameter.
3
Reliability
ECsix has multiple layers of safety. The individual bundles of pultruded carbon rods give exceptional flexibility, allowing it to resist fractures from bending, compression, and impact. Since the carbon fibre rods can move independently, they easily adapt to bending and absorb energy during impacts. This means that if some rods are damaged, it won’t affect the others in the stay. Can endure up to 25% damage and still get you home safely for repairs.
4
Vibration
The bundles of rods inside the braided cover naturally dampen vibrations. ECsix has a very low tendency to vibrate, reducing drag and improving overall comfort.
5
Logistics
ECsix rigging can be coiled, enabling full fabrication in the factory and efficient delivery of the finished product to customers worldwide. This ensures greater quality control, precision, and faster installation.
6
Service
ECsix can be fully inspected by removing the braid cover to access the individual fibers and end fittings. With Future Fibres’ TexTen braid cover technology, a visual inspection is only needed in the first 5 years during the yacht’s mast service at the yacht’s location. After 10 years, the rigging can be coiled and sent to Future Fibres for a full-service inspection, after which it will be returned to the customer for another 10-year cycle.

Approved

ECsix is a DNV GL approved product.

Applications

ECsix rigging is suitable for yachts of all sizes, including inshore racers like TP52’s, multihulls, performance cruisers, IMOCA 60 offshore yachts, or superyachts over 100 meters. Since its launch two decades ago, no ECsix cable has failed due to age, wear, waves, weather, or water. This outstanding track record makes ECsix the ideal choice for everything from cruisers to round-the-world racers and superyachts.

Future Fibres is the world’s leading supplier of composite rigging to the race, cruise, and superyacht markets.
