Future Fibres
High Performance Fibre Pendants (HPFP) for Cranes and Lifting

Based on either our multiC or synthenticS pendant manufacturing processes, Future Fibres have tailored our mature products for the lifting industry.

Technology

Using either synthetic aramid fibre or multiC carbon at their core, our HPFP have ends covered with clamshells to protect and waterproof the pendants. These lightweight alternatives to steel wire are applicable to many crane types and other lifting rigging, such as strops and hoist cables.

HPFP Aramid core

Crawler Cranes and mobile cranes operate in tough environments where speed and safety are paramount. Flexible for transport in packing cases, lightweight for fast and safe rigging, robust for rigging on location be that a muddy, stony field or arid, dusty mine. Aramid fibre exhibits excellent resistance to creep, ensuring that pendants deployed in pairs or alone retain their designed length during their working life. Aramid pendants are very low weight, economic to manufacture and coil tightly for storage.

HPFP Carbon multi-strand core

Permanently rigged cranes such as those found onboard heavy lifting ships or at mining sites face tough environmental and structural challenges. With pendants facing continuous fatigue cycles even when at rest and in corrosive environments, the cycle count reaches into millions.

UD Carbon fibre (CFRP) encapsulated in epoxy resin exhibits fatigue resistance exceptionally well, with near no strength loss by fatigue. With the structural fibre encased in epoxy, it is well protected against chafe, chemical contact, and is inert to the effects of UV. Additionally, the high tensile strength and tensile stiffness of carbon fibre are an excellent match to tension-tension pendant applications; the low coefficient of thermal expansion and zero creep keep pendant length manageable even over long spans and complement steel structures. Our multiC, multi-rod format allows pendants to be coiled for logistics and is inherently impact resistant to being struck.

Future Fibres HPFP

Our HPFP solutions are lightweight and reduce self-weight on all crane types; our engineering and knowledge provide a long service life pendant; residual breaking strength at the pendants’ end of life is assured to ISO/TS 23624:2021 standard.

Additionally, all manufacturing takes place under our ISO9001:2015 and AS9100 management qualifications and our HPFP are based on DNV-qualified products.

With the core fibre aligned with the primary loads in our unique and automated manufacturing processes, the resulting pendant is maximising the properties of the fibre without compromise.

Fork or eye ends, pin fastening

Regardless of the choice of core fibre, our HPFP feature pin spools at their interface. We manage the fibre around the tight radius of the spool outside diameter; our engineering, knowledge of the core fibres, and testing allow us to size the outside diameter and width of the spool at this critical area. Finally, fibres, spools are all locked together and protected by an outer case.

With large flanges, offering up and pushing securing pin through is fast, safe, and secure. For final peace of mind, you are confident in the knowledge that the structural fibres are passing around the pin.

Identification, protection and handling

Future Fibres offers in-house laser engraving for clear, easily readable pendant IDs on end bushings. Additional information, like QR codes, can be added as stickers on the fiberglass shell, and fabric labels are available for attachment anywhere on the pendant body.

A double or triple layer of polyester braid over sealing tape protects the core fibre from dirt. This durable braid is easy to handle and provides excellent resistance to chafing and wear. A bright, contrasting inner braid signals when the outer jacket is compromised, indicating the need for inspection or service. A twist indicator, braided directly into the outer jacket, ensures correct installation without twisting. This durable design ensures visibility, preventing fading or wear during use.

Future Fibres is the world’s leading supplier of composite rigging to the race, cruise, and superyacht markets.
