About the Project

The America’s Cup has always represented progress in sailing. This is typified by the AC40 – conceived for the inaugural edition of the Women’s and Youth America’s Cup in Barcelona 2024.

At 40 feet in length, the AC40s pack much of the performance power of their larger cousins into a smaller package. Key differences include crew size – AC75s have 8 crew onboard, while the AC40 is limited to 4.

Every AC40 features a high-performance carbon rig from Southern Spars, but the newest foiling monohull one design class departs from the AC75 when it comes to composite rigging – making the intuitive selection of ECthree.

Arising from the success of Future Fibres’ flagship multistrand product – ECsixECthree brings the dual benefits of performance and durability that typify multistrand cables, to a package specifically intended for yachts in the 30-65 foot range. ECthree utilizes standard modulous carbon fibre, paired with stainless steel end fittings. AC40s can achieve speeds of up to 40-45 knots in the right conditions.
