Future Fibres

F50 Multihull

About the Project

The adrenaline-fuelled action of SailGP provides its own unique brand of high-speed drama set on iconic backdrops around the world.

With the particular challenges of racing at over 50 knots, with congested racecourses, regular crashes and a demanding thick-and-fast schedule, only the unparalleled blend of durability and performance provided by ECsix is up to the challenge. SailGP has been equipped with Future Fibres’ flagship rigging product since its inception in 2019.

Having seen hair-raising crashes, extreme weather incidents, and with the yachts consistently being pushed to the limit by the world’s best sailors, it is a true testament to ECsix to say that no cable has ever failed due to age, wear, weather, or water. On the contrary, ECsix’s lightweight hybrid construction has underpinned the F50s extraordinary agility and all-out speed across the water, while looking unshakable in terms of reliability.

ECsix has lived up to its billing time and time again, and has quite a highlight reel in SailGP – including this coming together between the USA Team and the Japanese boat. The hairy moment sees the Japanese hull thrust into the American ECsix shroud, which doesn’t budge, slicing through the carbon fibre “like a cheese wire through cheese.”

Future Fibres is immensely proud to be the official rigging supplier of SailGP, playing a key role in empowering the F50s to compete at the pinnacle of performance and entertain every time they hit the water.
