windage

For aft rigging, Dyneema and Kevlar are the only suitable alternatives to PBO. However, since aft rigging is generally built to a break strength rather than stretch, more Dyneema or Kevlar fibre is needed to achieve the same strength, resulting in increased diameter and weight. A PBO cable is 22 percent smaller than Dyneema and 24 percent smaller than Kevlar. The PBO cable is also twice as strong.

For side shrouds, PBO fibre is lighter than alternative carbon products, and again boasts a lower diameter. Compared to PBO's dry fibre construction, carbon rigging contains strands of carbon bound by an epoxy resin, which increases the cable's volume/diameter (and therefore windage) for the same stretch.
