| Future Fibres Prestigious New Contract Wins |
| Friday, 22 September 2006 |
This year’s Monaco Yacht show has seen Future Fibres announce seven prestigious new contract wins. Future Fibres is now recognised as the leading force in rigging technology for the Superyacht market. Due to the unfaltering record of Future Fibres’ PBO rigging in the Volvo Ocean Races, Future Fibres is attracting attention from the performance superyacht market looking to capitalise on the advantages PBO rigging offers. Two of the most exciting new commissions include the Hoek 52.4m and a Perini, Briand 125’.
"Our products are comprehensively tried and tested, and offer superyachts the best possible rigging option. The number of new orders we have is a direct reflection of the confidence in our product. By working with naval architects early in the design process, the weight advantages of our rigging offers, can have a profound affect on the overall design of large performance yachts," comments Future Fibres CEO, Tom Hutchinson.
Hoek 52m
The new Hoek project is a development of the Superyacht Award winner Adele. The classic lined sloop is being built for worldwide cruising by Vitters Shipyard in Holland. The inclusion of Future Fibres PBO composite rigging means that over 2
tonnes can be saved in the rig and rigging, leading to improved stability and reducing the required ballast. It has in turn influenced the overall height of the mast, enabling far easier passage through the Panama Canal.
Perini Briand 38m
A full set of PBO Future Fibres Rigging has also been ordered for the new 38m Perini designed by Philippe Briand. This will be the first Perini to use composite rigging and
will set a new precedent for improved performance of large cruising yachts.
Future Fibres has already made significant inroads into the Wally fleet, with Magic Carpet2, Open Season, Nariida and Alexia all carrying full sets of PBO. However, there are a number of new, exciting projects under way:
Wally 100' Y3K
Currently in production is a full set of standing rigging for the new 100' Y3K which is due to launch later this year. The Frers designed sloop built by Wally Yachts in Fano is a development of the first Y3K which has been very successfully campaigned in the Mediterranean Wally Class racing.
Wally 130'
A full set of Future Fibres rigging has been ordered for the Wally 130' sloop designed by Javier Soto Acebal. Under construction at Wally Yachts in Italy, this high performance cruising yacht is scheduled for launch in 2007. Future Fibres PBO rigging was the obvious choice for this new boat where optimal boat speed and improved stability were important factors.
Wally 148'
The largest Wally yacht to date, the 148' from Tripp Design is being constructed in Fano, Italy, and is due to launch in 2008. This high performance superyacht will carry a sail area of approximately 9,000 sqft. The carbon swept-back spreader mast is being supplied by Hall Spars, and Future Fibres is providing a full set of PBO rigging.
Dubois 44m Salperton
Currently under construction at Fitzroy Yachts in New Zealand and due to launch early 2007, is the new 44m Salperton. The Dubois designed performance cruising boat has a Marten Spars mast, and due to short lead time on the project has opted for both rod and Future Fibres composite standing rigging. Future Fibres is supplying the diagonals and the inner forestay. By selecting the PBO/rod combination the designers are predicting a 250kg weight saving over full rod package.
Farr 98' Leopard III
In racing news - a full set of Future Fibres rigging is being supplied to Mike Slade's new racing Maxi, Leopard III. The boat, which is being built in Australia, is due to be launched in the UK in May of next year.
Future Fibres’ extensive experience in the Volvo Ocean Race and the America’s Cup has provided superb quantitative data on the reliability of the product in extreme conditions, over thousands of miles. The information derived from these competitive races is able to support the research already conducted and demonstrate that Future Fibres cables can exceed current industry standards set by rod rigging, in terms of longevity and strength, at a fraction of the weight.
With a series of exceptional performances from yachts carrying Future Fibres’ PBO Rigging at this year’s Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, including the class winners Alfa Romeo and Magic Carpet2, Future Fibres continues to demonstrate its ability to provide rigging solutions that are as reliable as they are performance enhancing.
