Sanya Lan, the race boat of Team Sanya started life as 'Telefonica Blue', designed by Farr Yacht Design in 2004 and built by King Marine. She was first raced in the 2005/06 Volvo Ocean Race where she finished up in 3rd position overall. She joined the Team Sanya team in June 2011 and her first trip took her from Spain to the UK where she then entered a boat shed and underwent what can only be described as a magical transformation. The branding solution aims to portray the tourist destination of Sanya – the 'Hawaii of the Orient'.

Future Fibres were chosen to supply a complete mast and rigging package for the 2011/12 race in an extremely short time frame. And the result: Mike Sanderson was kind enough to give us some thoughts on his new mast and rigging a couple of weeks after stepping in Alicante prior to the race:

"Like everything with the Team Sanya project the timeline for the new mast, boom and rigging was incredibly tight, Future Fibres have delivered and now sea trialed what looks to be an exceptional product. As we hoped from the design, the mast is significantly stiffer then it's predecessor, is immaculately presented and very importantly for a fast Volvo mast was on target weight and center of gravity. I just want to thank the whole team at Future Fibres for the massive effort to deliver us such a lovely product on an amazingly short time-line."
