FlexC gets DAME Special Mention

The future of Carbon is here! Future Fibres´ all new FlexC™ carbon is a true technological innovation which has been recognized this week by the METS DAME Special Mention.

A number of carbon rigging products have appeared in the last 3-4 years which all rely on standard carbon/epoxy technology. The downside with this technology is its poor flexibility which limits its applicability for certain cable types.

Having completed homologation of their TSC technology, Future Fibres R&D team set out specifically to build a flexible carbon cable. A number of months later and the R&D workshop resembling a chemistry lab rather than a rigging shop, a flexible carbon product (FlexC™) was born.

The cable uses a custom carbon fibre which is impregnated with a specially designed matrix, allowing complete control of the quality and finish. The impregnated fibre tow is then wound, consolidated and covered with a braid layer for chafe protection. For the same stiffness, the resulting FlexC™ cable is lighter and smaller in diameter than competitors´ solid carbon rod!

Future Fibres´ FlexC™ cables are unique and combine all the benefits of carbon fibre (stiffness, strength and excellent fatigue resistance) with the flexibility, impact resistance and general handling benefits of a dry fibre cable. FlexC™ has undergone an extensive test programme with a number of development partners (Open 60/Volvo 70) clocking up over 400,000 sea miles to put the product through its paces before bringing it to the broader market.
